Piano moving tips? 6 tips to pay attention to

Piano moving tips. Moving a piano is not something you can do overnight. A lot can go wrong when moving a piano. Of course you want your precious piano to arrive at its new destination completely undamaged.

A piano is very heavy and sturdy, yet very vulnerable. Good preparation for the move is therefore necessary. Do you want to move your piano yourself? Then read the tips below.

Piano moving tip 1: Protect your piano well

The paint on a piano is very fragile. A scratch is easy and of course a shame. Therefore, ensure sufficient protection of the paint. Large blankets, sheets and other protective equipment come in handy here.

Piano moving tip 2: Protect your floor

A piano is quite heavy and often stands on very small, sharp wheels. These wheels can very easily damage your floor if you try to move the piano around the room. Lifting would be best for the floor, but it is impossible and bad for your back.

You can protect the floor with a blanket or old towels. The piano can be slid across the floor. Even then, continue to be careful that the wheels do not damage the floor through the blanket.

The easiest thing is a 'dog' on which you place the piano. This way you can easily move it, even over small thresholds.

Piano moving tip 3: Tight space? Piano on its side

Do you need to transport the piano through a tight space? Then put it on its side. This is possible, as long as you approach it carefully, of course.

Placing the piano on its side gives you a little more room to maneuver in narrow spaces.

Piano moving tip 4: Arrange a suitable moving van

Of course, you had already figured out that you shouldn't put the piano in the trunk. But a suitable moving van is very important when moving your piano.

You can rent a van or small truck. Make sure that there are sufficient points on the inside to which you can secure the piano during transport.

Your piano is on wheels and you don't want it to move around during the move, with all the damage that entails. So secure it properly with tension straps, for example.

Piano moving tip 5: How do you get down from a great height?

Is your piano not on the ground floor but on the first floor or higher? Then there is a lot more involved in moving your piano safely. Due to its weight, it is not possible to carry a piano down the stairs. Is there no elevator where the piano fits?

Renting a moving lift or crane is an option. There are also special devices that allow you to transport heavy furniture up the stairs. This can come with a hefty price tag.

Piano moving tip 6: Place your piano in the right place immediately

You will probably be very happy when you have the piano at the new location. But, if possible, put your piano in its permanent new place immediately. This prevents you from having to carry it around again later. And your piano can start acclimatizing right away.

Then wait at least 4 weeks before having the piano tuned. By then, your piano will have adjusted to the new space and you will enjoy your retuned piano for longer.
